This page is the second part of my crochet stitch library and focuses on textured, decorative, and more advanced crochet stitches and techniques.
New to crochet? Start with Basic Crochet Stitches
You’ll find stitches that add depth, structure, and visual interest — including clusters, post stitches, lace variations, and pattern-building techniques. These stitches are often used to create statement pieces and richer fabric textures.
If you’re new to crochet or looking for the core stitches, you may want to start with the Basic Crochet Stitches Library, which covers the essentials.
You can save a copy of this directory to your device, just look for the print friendly button.
Is there a stitch you would like me to use in future designs? Please let me know!
Do you have a problem matching your personal stitch gauge to a pattern gauge? I have the perfect tool for you, the stitch gauge converter. Give it a try!
For my UK crocheters, the table below is a conversion of basic crochet stitches from US to UK.

- A v-st in this project is made up of a pair of trebles. Work the pair of trebles into the space between the 2 treble posts of the previous row.
- This v-st gives a tighter texture however, you can crochet your triangles using treble ch2 treble if that feels easier.

US Double 3 down (dc3d)
The mosaic treble stitch (US double crochet) is made three rows below, in the front of the treble below the chains from the missed stitches. (Chains are made for the missed stitches. Crossed Cable Stitch (cs)
In this stitch pattern, so that the cables are all the same direction, the cable stitch is worked over two rows.
UK Terms
Row 1: skip a stitch, treble crochet in next 3 stitches, working over the 3 stitches just made, yarn over and insert hook into the skipped stitch. Pull up a loop to the height of the treble, yarn over and pull through 2 loops twice.

If you would like your cables in different directions, skip row 2
US Terms
Row 1: skip a stitch, double crochet in next 3 stitches, working over the 3 stitches just made, yarn over and insert hook into the skipped stitch. Pull up a loop to the height of the double crochet, yarn over and pull through 2 loops twice.
Row 2: ch1, single crochet across.
If you would like your cables in different directions, skip row 2

Feather Stitch
Yarn over, insert hook in the chain space, yarn over, pull up, (3 loops on hook), yarn over, insert hook in the chain space two rows down, yarn over, pull up, (5 loops on hook), yarn over, insert hook in the next chain space, yarn over, pull up (7 loops on hook), yarn over and pull through all 7 loops. Chain one and start the next feather stitch in the same chain space.

Braided Cable Stitch
The braided cable stitch uses 6 stitches and is made from crocheting Front Post Double Treble Below (Fpdtr UK) / Front Post Treble Below (Fptr US) in the third row below, skipping stitches and then working in those skipped stitches either in front of the stitches made or behind the stitches.

Celtic Weave Stitch
This stitch is worked by crocheting around the post of stitches (front post on one row and back post on another). The stitches are crocheted ‘out of order’ so they cross each other. This is achieved by skipping stitches and going back to work in the skipped stitches.

Alpine Stitch
This stitch pattern is a 4-row repeat

Trinity Stitch (US)
The Trinity stitch uses single crochet 3 together (sc3tog). The rows begin with a single crochet and this stitch is used to work the first stitch of the sc3tog. The following sc3tog across the row uses the previous stitch to work the sc3tog. To keep the stitch count the same across the row, a chain one is completed after working the stitches together and counts as a stitch in the following row. The exception to this is when the last sc3tog of any row is worked. A single crochet is worked in the last stitch, even though this is the last sc3tog of the row.
Written instructions:
Multiples of 2 plus 1, add 1 for foundation chain (chain any even amount).
Row 1: sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc3tog (starting in sc just made), *ch1, sc3tog starting in st just made, * rep across to last ch, sc in same st as last sc3tog, ch1, turn
Row 2: sc in first st, , sc3tog (starting in sc just made), *ch1, sc3tog starting in st just made, * rep across to last ch, sc in same st as last sc3tog, ch1, turn

Modified Trinity Stitch (ts)
This stitch uses UK Treble 3 together/ US Double 3 together. A treble/double crochet 3 together stitch is made out of 3 incomplete treble/double stitches crocheted together. The placement of the stitches are different from the regular treble/double 3 together. Yarn over, insert hook in the same stitch you just worked, yarn over and pull up a loop, yarn over and pull through 2 loops (2 loops on hook), yarn over, insert hook in the next stitch, yarn over and pull up a loop, yarn over and pull through 2 loops (3 loops on hook), yarn over, insert hook in the next stitch, yarn over and pull up a loop, yarn over and pull through 2 loops (4 loops on hook), yarn over and pull through all 4 loops on hook. Chain one. Trinity Stitch made. The Trinity Stitch begins in the last stitch worked, treble 3 together (as above), chain one.

Block Stitch (also known as Brick Stitch)

Row 4: sc in base of 1st st, ch2, *sc in sp bet 3dc, ch2, * rep across, ending with sc in last st, ch2, turn
(Rows 3 and 4 complete block stitch pattern)

Floret Stitch (US terms)
The floret stitch is created by working a combination of slip stitches and double crochets that alternate across the row. The height of the double crochet is decreased by the slip stitch and this creates a staggered, floral-like appearance. I love how easy it is to work this stitch!
First row: dc in ea st across, ch1, turn
Second row (WS): sl st in base of ch1, *dc in next st, sl st in next st, * rep across, ch2, turn
The above 2 rows form the floret stitch.

Filet Crochet
Chains and double crochet stitches form open and filled squares. The open squares are typically created by working chains between double crochet stitches, while the filled squares are created by working double crochet stitches into the previous row.

Checkered Crochet
The checker is a pattern of stripes with crossed horizontal and vertical lines which form squares. Typically, the checker pattern contains two colours where a single checker (a single square within the check pattern) is surrounded on all four sides by a checker of a different colour.
The unworked yarn is carried across the row.

Tapestry Crochet
Tapestry crochet is a technique where at least two contrasting colour yarns are used together for colourwork in the same row or round.
The yarn that is being used to work the stitches is called the active colour, the yarn that is being carried along the back of the stitches is called the inactive colour.
- tapestry in the round – worked in a spiral on the right side of the work
- one-directional flat tapestry crochet – worked in rows in one direction only on the right side of the work
- two-directional flat tapestry crochet – worked in rows, turning the work where the odd numbered rows are the right side and even numbered rows the wrong side; the crochet pattern graph will be read from right to left for odd numbered rows and left to right for even numbered rows.

Mosaic Crochet (inset)
This technique uses two rows in one colour, back and forth, then the next colour is switched to for the next two rows – this repeats throughout the project.
The yarn not in use is not fastened off but left at the side of the work, ready to be picked up again after two rows.
Both loops are worked into as you normally would.
All mosaic double crochet stitches are worked on the right side.
The first row of colour creates the pattern and the second row in the same colour repeats it.
One more chain is made than the number of stitches skipped. This is to give space so that the fabric doesn’t pull in.
Where a mosaic double crochet was used in the first row, in the second row a single crochet is worked into this stitch.
Where a chain space was made in the first row, the same chain space is made on the second row.
