Why you’ll love crocheting this lacy scarf

Portable Project: This lacy scarf is portable, making it an excellent on-the-go project. You can take your work with you and stitch a few rows during your lunch breaks, commutes, or while waiting for appointments.
Fab Fashion Accessory: Lacy scarves add a touch of style to any outfit! You can wear this scarf casually with jeans and a t-shirt or draped over a dress for a more formal occasion. The versatility makes it a valuable accessory in any wardrobe.
Seasonal Versatility: A lacy scarf is suitable for various seasons. The openwork design makes the fabric light and breathable, making it comfortable to wear in spring or fall. The lacy pattern can add a touch of elegance to winter outfits without being too warm too!

Design Inspiration

We’ve been invited to a summer wedding and I couldn’t make up my mind whether to accessorise with a lacy scarf or shawl.  I’m still undecided!

I’ve had this 4ply yarn in my stash for ages. It has a metallic thread running through the fibres – perfect for adding a bit of glitz.

I wanted to make the lacy scarf wide enough so that it could be styled in different ways.

It’s wide enough to sit comfortably on the shoulders.

But looks just as good looped around the neck (as in the images style on my mannequin below).

How the pattern is worked

  • The crochet lace pattern is made using a three row pattern repeat.
  • The first row is double crochet (US single crochet).
  • The second row is double treble crochet (US treble crochet).
  • The final row repeats the first row.
  • The total row count for this lacy scarf is 138.
  • There is no shaping so no increasing or decreasing is needed.

Yarn Choices

Lion Brand Summer Nights is a superfine/fingering yarn that is perfect for summer projects.

Multi-coloured and twisted with a thin strand of metallic thread, it’s ideal for crocheting shawls, scarves, or summer tops that need a bit of bling.

You can machine wash (30 degrees) and tumble dry garments and accessories made with Summer Nights.

I think it gives a summer wardrobe a fabulous lift!

The colourway I used, Passion Fruit, is no longer available. However, you can purchase other colourways.

Yarn alternatives:

Using 4ply yarn makes the scarf lovely and lightweight and the thin strand of metallic yarn running through gives added glamour.
