I’m excited to be sharing this collection of crochet summer scarf patterns! As the weather starts to warm up, it’s the perfect time to accessorize with lightweight and lacy scarves that add a pop of colour and texture to any outfit.
During Spring it can still be quite chilly can’t it! Not cold enough to be swaddled up in a winter scarf but not quite warm enough yet to leave our necks bare.
And while it can be hot and humid during the Summer, those cooler evenings often have me reaching for a shawl, poncho, lightweight sweater or a lightweight scarf, especially when I’m sitting out on the decking (with a good book and a glass of wine!) or at the end of a day at the beach when the sun goes down.

Lightweight Yarn
The lacy crochet scarf patterns in this collection use lightweight yarn.
A yarn is generally considered lightweight if it is:
- 2ply – lace weight
- 4ply – sock, fingering, baby
- 5ply – sport, baby
- 8ply – DK/Light Worsted
Using a lighter weight yarn and open crochet stitches gives a delicate and lacy detail which is perfect for these projects.
I’ve chosen to include free patterns that have a variety of stitches and techniques:
- Double Treble (dtr) / US Treble Crochet (tr)
- Treble Crochet (tr) / US Double Crochet (dc)
- Double Crochet (dc) / US Single Crochet (sc)
- 3 Treble Cluster (tr3tog) / US 3 Double Cluster (dc3tog)
- V Stitch
- Y Stitch
- Herringbone Stitch
- Puff Stitch
- Bobble Stitch
- Feather and Fan Stitch
- Fan Lace
- Filet Crochet
- Corner to Corner (c2c)
- Asymmetrical shape
- Working on the bias
The lacy crochet scarf patterns are perfect for beginners.
You can still challenge yourself by learning a new stitch or technique and feel great showing off your lacy crochet scarf!

Blocks of double crochet (UK treble crochet) followed by chain one, skip one, double form the lacy pattern.
The recommended yarn has been discontinued but a good match is Scheepjes Secret Garden.
A lovely blend of silk, cotton and polyester fibres, this yarn will give a gorgeous drape to your spring scarf.

10. Airy and Light Crochet Scarf for Spring
I wanted to include this scarf for a couple of reasons.
It’s constructed on the bias which means one side increases while the other side decreases.
You may not have used this technique before. This easy pattern gives you a chance to try a new technique.
The second reason is that this scarf is worked up using the Y Stitch.
This stitch gives a lovely open fabric and if you haven’t worked with this stitch, you’ll find a tutorial linked on the pattern.
You can also choose between a small or large size.
Recommended yarn: Pima Cotton Worsted Weight (430 yards)
