I’ve chosen crochet patterns that are perfect to make in a night or two when you’re short on time and most of the patterns only use one skein of yarn.
Receiving a handmade gift is just the best! I think it shows the love, care and thought behind the gift giving. You can personalise most of these crochet gifts easily too by adding surface crochet to add names or words.
Have fun!

As well as the free patterns below, you’ll also find my suggestions on what you can add to your project to give your gift a bit of luxury.
1. Bobble Crochet Book Sleeve
If you’ve bought a book to gift, instead of wrapping paper, why not consider crocheting a book sleeve. Two gifts in one!
I’ve included instructions in 3 sizes – SMALL (mass market paperback), MEDIUM (trade paperback) and LARGE (hardcover) for this bobble book sleeve. And as I always do, the pattern is written in UK and US crochet terms.
I’ve also handpicked crochet patterns for bookmarks. The bookmarks are easy to make and you’ll highly likely find the yarn you need in your stash. You can browse the book mark pattern here.
2. Tunisian Crochet Washcloths
If you haven’t worked with Tunisian crochet before, this pattern shows you how easy it is with step-by-step photos and instructions.
The Tunisian crochet tutorial leads on to the washcloth pattern so if you’ve already mastered this stitch, just scroll to the pattern.
This free crochet pattern uses Aran/Worsted weight cotton yarn.
I’m loving the linen stitch border giving this quick and easy crochet project something that’s a little bit different and perfect for gift giving.
A set of eco friendly beauty products would go well with this washcloth for your eco warrior.
3. Dark Skies Tunisian Hat
Crocheted in the Tunisian Simple Stitch, my pattern also includes instructions on how to weave thread through to create any design you want.
Personalise the hat by weaving through a name or something the person you are making it for would love.
The instructions include 4 adult sizes – small, medium, large and extra large so you could crochet a hat for a teen, woman or man.
Tunisian crochet stitches make a lovely and dense fabric, perfect for hats! These beginner-friendly hats worked in Tunisian crochet would also make fab gifts.
4. Bath Pouf Crochet Pattern
This Bath Pouf will take you about an hour to crochet.
You will be working single/double crochet (double/treble UK terms) and slip stitches to join your rounds.
This crochet project also uses Aran/Worsted weight cotton yarn.
With only 5 rounds of crochet, the bath pouf will be ready to gift in no time.
Gift the washcloth and bath pouf together and add to a spa kit for the ultimate indulgence gift.
5. Simple Crochet Pencil Pouch Crochet Pattern
This simple crochet pencil case can be worked up in a couple of hours.
It’s a great crochet project for beginners.
The pencil case only takes one ball/skein of yarn and there are instructions for using one block of colour or stripes.
You’ll be crocheting a rectangle using single and double crochet stitches (double and treble crochet UK terms).
A pretty scalloped edge finishes this crochet project off nicely.
I think adding pens and pencils will make this a handmade crochet gift to treasure.
6. Free Crochet Pattern Sturdy Market Tote
This market tote bag is quick to work up.
Using two strands together not only makes this a quick project for your crochet gifts but bulking up in this way makes it sturdier and stronger.
The free crochet pattern is worked in oblong rounds. Delia has added some photos to show you how the pattern works up.
Perfect for those trips to the farmer’s market or library.
7. Crochet Chevron Lace Shawl Free Pattern
A simple but very effective wavy chevron stitch makes up the pattern for this gorgeous crochet lace shawl.
The pattern/stitch used in this free crochet pattern is suitable for all crochet abilities so whether you’re a beginner or more advanced, you’ll have no problems crafting this gorgeous crochet gift.
Recommended yarn: The Yarn Collective in shade: Henri Plum (300g)
Finished size: 40cm x 140cm
8. Tunisian Crochet Pocket Shawl and Beanie
My pattern for a crochet pocket shawl and matching beanie hat uses the Tunisian Lattice Stitch and Tunisian Simple Stitch.
The Tunisian Lattice Stitch gives a dense fabric with a lovely texture and works really well for accessories in the colder months.
If you’re just starting out with Tunisian crochet, this is the perfect beginner project.
I used Papatya Batik DK (300g for the shawl and 100g for the beanie)
Finished sizes:
- Shawl : 15” / 38cm (W) X 66” / 168cm (L)
- Pockets: 10” / 25.5cm (W) X 10” / 25.5cm (L)
- Beanie Hat: head circumference – Teen 21” / 54cm Medium Woman 22” / 56cm
9. Granny Square Scarf
Transform the granny square into this easy crochet scarf using Aran/Worsted weight yarn.
This pattern uses 3 colours. The granny squares are made from 3 rounds – each square measuring 9cm – and you will only need to make 14 for the scarf.
Once joined, you’ll work a double crochet (US single crochet) border before adding the fringe.
Finished size: 8 x 50 ins (20.5 x 127 cm) without fringe
10. Infinity Scarf
Crochet an infinity scarf using the mosaic technique in my easy pattern.
You’ll need 2 x 100g of chunky yarn in contrasting colours and a 6mm hook. I used Emu chunky but gauge isn’t critical so you could use any chunky yarn you have in your stash.
Pattern includes written instructions and mosaic chart.
Finished size: 15cm/6” wide x 140cm/55” length
Finished length (once seam is sewn to create the loop) 70cm/27.5”
11. Granny Square Baby Blanket Free Crochet Pattern
This granny square blanket uses the classic granny square pattern.
I used the same granny square in my Christmas Tree wall hanging project and granny square cardigan.
Instead of stopping at a few rounds, you continue on until you reach the size you want your gifted blanket to be.
An easy pattern, you can switch up the style by using different colour yarns.
Choose the colour to suit the décor of the person you are making it for or you could choose their favourite colours. They’ll love snuggling up!
The Picot edging finishes this granny square lovey blanket perfectly.
Recommended yarn: Paintbox Simply Aran (300g)
Finished size: 18 inches square
If you prefer to work from a PDF, this pattern is available to buy from Etsy.
12. Diamond Granny Square Blanket
My lap blanket pattern uses a technique that transforms a classic granny square into a diamond. This is the perfect project for using up your stash and keeping your costs down for gifting.
I tried different borders before I settled on a scalloped edge. You could personalize with your own border! There’s lots to choose from in this roundup of borders and edgings.
As in the pattern above, you can keep going round before adding the border to make the blanket any size you want.
13. Crochet Nesting Baskets
This free beginner crochet basket pattern can be made in small, medium and large sizes.
You can either crochet the different sizes and nest them or if you have an idea on filling the basket with gifts (these look fabulous filled with beauty products), crochet just one size.
These baskets are so versatile – use them in any room for any purpose!
If you’re a visual learner, you’ll love Bella Coco Crochet’s tutorial videos for this crochet project (for both left and right handed crocheters).
Warning: You’ll want to crochet a second set of nesting baskets for yourself 🙂
Recommended yarn: Aran/Worsted – Lily Sugar N Cream
14. Crochet Tote Pattern
This smaller tote bag is cute. It’s elegant and feminine.
I don’t know about you but for me, I don’t always need a full-size tote and this would be perfect for carrying smaller items.
Embellishments would work well on this tote bag.
Choose a flower to crochet and sew on or how about small buttons in a spiral?
This easy crochet tote bag works up in a day. Perfect for your evening or weekend crafting.
Recommended yarn: Lion Brand Rewind (1 skein = 100g)
Measurements 12 inches deep by 11 inches wide with a 9 inch “deep” handle.
Gnomes have become poplar for gifting. They don’t take long to make and you can likely use your scrap yarn. Have a browse of the free patterns in this collection of crochet gnomes.
15. Crochet Heart Shaped Basket
You can use any weight yarn for this crochet project.
You might need to use a smaller hook than recommended for the yarn weight you choose to make your crochet stitches tighter.
You want the tension to be compact so that nothing can fall through your crochet stitches.
I love the options available with this free crochet pattern.
Crocheting to round 11 will give you a lovely finish. Alternatively, add the shell edging for that little bit of extra glamour.
Why not crochet a set, both without and with the shell edging. Keep a set for you and gift the other one.
You could use the base (the base is the same pattern for the heart coaster which links to in this pattern) as a lid for your crochet heart shaped basket.
Tip: add some handmade jewellery to make this a crochet gift to remember.
16. Crochet Heart Tote Bag
Two bags in one! Larger heart on side, stripes and a crochet heart bag charm on the other.
You’ll need around 4 hours to crochet this heart tote bag.
Looking to use your yarn stash? My pattern uses Aran/Worsted weight yarn in small amounts of four colours and is the perfect scrap project.
I’ve written the instructions in UK and US crochet terms.
Celebrate your friendship, your girlfriend (or for a birthday) and fill it with favourite things – it’s the perfect size for a book and goodies.
Measurements: 28cm / 11inches (W) X 23cm / 9inches (L)
Happy Crocheting!
