1.Bramble Drawstring Bag

My crochet drawstring bag uses different stitches to make it interesting. You’ll work the bobble stitch and acorn clusters, as well as basic crochet stitches.
It is a yarn eater (you’ll need 400g of DK weight yarn) but this combination of stitches gives your bag a unique and beautiful look.
The handles are crocheted in rows of single crochet which are folded and the edges sewn together, making them strong with very little stretch.
Play with different colour combinations and let your creativity shine!
2. Amarillo Drawstring Backpack

Crafted in approximately 155g of worsted weight yarn and measuring approximately 16 inches in height and 12 inches in width, the backpack provides ample space while maintaining a sleek profile.
The design features a flat base, continuous rounds for the body, and textured upper details created with front post half double crochet stitches. The inclusion of i-cord drawstrings adds both functionality and style.
This free pattern creates a functional accessory, perfect for carrying your essentials or current crochet project.
3. Wanderlust Chevron Backpack

Crafted with Lion Brand 24/7 Cotton yarn, a worsted-weight mercerized cotton known for its durability and vibrant colour selection, this backpack offers both functionality and aesthetic appeal.
Measuring approximately 9.75 inches in width, 12 inches in height, and 4.25 inches in depth, it provides ample space for essentials like sunglasses, sunscreen, and a water bottle.
The design features a classic chevron pattern, achieved through simple crochet stitches, making it accessible to those with intermediate crochet skills. The use of crocheted rope straps ensures comfort and prevents stretching, maintaining the bag’s shape over time.
Stylish and practical, this backpack is ideal for daily adventures or casual outings.
4. Granny Square Drawstring Bag

This granny square bag is constructed from 14 granny squares, combining retro charm with modern functionality.
The free pattern is worked in Red Heart All in One Flower Power yarn for the main body and Super Saver for the straps, back hanging loop, and drawstring flap.

5. Easy Crochet T-shirt Yarn Purse

If you’ve wanted to work with t-shirt yarn but you weren’t quite sure what to make, this project is for you!
This crochet pouch bag is worked in continuous rounds – no joining at the end of rounds. A stitch marker is used to keep track of the beginning of each round (or you could thread a scrap piece of yarn through the stitch and carry it up each round so you don’t have to keep unlocking and moving the stitch marker).
The purse is constructed using a modified single crochet stitch, providing sturdy sides that help the bag stand upright.
A leather cross-body strap is recommended for added durability and style, though alternatives can be used based on personal preference. I think the leather gives a professional finish – what do you think?
The main body uses approximately 131 yards of t-shirt yarn, such as Knitz N Purlz T-shirt Yarn (100% cotton, super bulky weight).
This free pattern is available on The Loopy Lamb’s website at the link above.
6. Drawstring Makeup Bag

This crochet drawstring bag is perfect for organizing your cosmetics or small essentials.
Do you have bulky yarn in your stash (you’ll need 180 yards)? The designer has used variegated yarn which adds a decorative touch, but you could use what you already have.
Constructed from a simple circular base using double crochet stitches, the bag expands with increasing rounds to achieve the desired size.
A drawstring closure allows for easy opening and secure storage of items.
The designer has rated this project as beginner making it accessible if you’re new to crochet.
The finished bag’s diameter is approximately 12 inches (30.5 cm).
The free pattern includes detailed instructions to guide you through the creation process.
7. Crochet Watermelon Drawstring Back with Pockets

I love the practicality of this pattern AND the playful design. It’s perfect for keeping your crochet tools and project all in one place! I could also see this bag used on a picnic. How would you use yours?
The finished drawstring bag measures approximately 10 inches (25.4 cm) in diameter and 10 inches (25.4 cm) in height, providing you with lots of space for essentials.
Skill Level:
- The designer has rated this project as Easy, meaning it is suitable for beginners familiar with basic crochet stitches.
Design Features:
- Linked Crochet Stitches: Utilized to create a dense fabric, eliminating the need for a lining and ensuring durability.
- Integrated Pockets: Offers additional storage, with the option to place them inside or outside based on personal preference.
- Drawstring Closure: Ensures secure containment of items while adding to the bag’s aesthetic appeal.
Worked in Brava (worsted weight acrylic yarn) in traditional watermelon colours—red, green, white, and black, you’ll have fun as you work on this bag.
8. Easy Tunisian Crochet Drawstring Backpack

The Easy Tunisian Crochet Drawstring Backpack is perfect for both toddlers and adults.
Crafted using Bernat Maker Home Décor yarn—a bulky weight blend of cotton and nylon—this backpack offers durability and a soft texture.
The pattern provides two size options:
- Toddler Size: Each panel measures 9 inches (23 cm) in width by 13 inches (33 cm) in height.
- Adult Size: Each panel measures 13 inches (33 cm) in width by 17 inches (43 cm) in height.
The design features two panels worked in Tunisian Knit Stitch and Modified Tunisian Simple Stitch, creating a sturdy fabric. The backpack is assembled with crocheted I-Cord drawstrings, which serve both as the closure mechanism and shoulder straps.
Rated as suitable for advanced beginners familiar with basic Tunisian crochet techniques, you’ll also find detailed photo and video tutorials to help with the construction of the bag and the I-Cord drawstrings, making it an excellent project for those looking to expand their skills.

9. Diamond Crochet Tote Bag

This tapestry crochet pattern features a striking diamond design that I know you’ll love. Not only is the tote practical but just look at how stylish it is too!
Design Features:
- Tapestry Crochet Technique: Uses colourwork to create a bold diamond pattern, adding to the tote’s visual appeal.
- Sturdy Construction: Worked in continuous rounds for the base and joined rounds for the body, giving the bag durability without the need for a lining.
- Practical Size: Spacious enough to carry daily essentials, making it suitable for various occasions.
Worked in #4 weight yarn, you’ll need to choose 5 colours – a main colour and 4 contrasting colours. If you would like to use the same as the designer, Christine has used Shine Worsted.
Measurements: The circumference is approximately 30 inches (76 cm) with the bottom diameter: 9 inches (23 cm). Height is approximately 11.5 inches (29 cm).
This project is for intermediate crocheters and recommended that you’re familiar with colour changes.
10. Chevron Bucket Bag

If you’re looking for a bag for daily use, this pattern is perfect.
Using chevrons and a dainty chain handle adds a modern touch I know you’ll love! (you have the option of adding a fabric handle instead).
The designer has used YarnArt Eco Cotton XL but if you find it difficult to source for where you are in the world, a worsted weight yarn made of 80% cotton and 20% polyester could work. If your substitute yarn doesn’t match the pattern gauge, you can use my stitch gauge converter to adjust the stitches (but be mindful of the stitch multiples needed). You’ll need a main colour and two contrasting colours.
Measurements: Height: 9.4 inches (24 cm); Width: 11.8 inches (30 cm); Depth: 5.9 inches (15 cm).
Design Features:
- Drawstring Closure: Eyelets are incorporated at the top of the bag for a drawstring, ensuring secure closure.
- Picot Border: A delicate picot edging adds a refined finish to the bag’s opening.
- Optional Strap: The pattern suggests attaching a 32-inch (80 cm) metal or fabric strap with clips for convenient carrying.
Choosing your colours to personalize will make this project a much-used addition to your wardrobe.
11. Gift Bag

Designed for gift giving during the winter season, I think this pattern would be a great project all year round. Use different colours to suit the season or crochet in colours you know your recipient will love.
Worked in rounds and joined with a slip stitch, the designer recommends using an invisible join to make the seam less noticeable.
You’ll need worsted weight #4 cotton yarn in 3 colours; 40yds, 20yds and 20yds.
Skill level: Advanced beginner – intermediate
Design Features:
- Simple Construction: Worked in the round from the base up, making it a quick and straightforward project.
- Drawstring Closure: Features a crocheted chain drawstring for easy opening and secure closure.
- Versatile Use: Ideal for small gifts, party favours, or as decorative storage for trinkets.
The pattern for the smaller crochet gift bag is free to view on the link above with the option of upgrading to a PDF that includes both the small and larger bag.
12. Honeycomb Bread Bag

I must admit I’ve never thought of storing baguettes in a bag! What doesn’t get eaten on the day of purchase gets put in the food recycle bin because it’s just too hard and unpalatable.
If you don’t eat yours in a day, this is such a fab idea for keeping the bread fresh and crunchy!
You’ll need sport weight (#2 fine) yarn in 510 yards for the main colour and 69 yards contrast colour.
This drawstring bag uses mostly single crochet back loop only stitches in the round.
Design Features:
- Tapestry Crochet Honeycomb Pattern: The bag showcases a striking honeycomb motif, achieved through tapestry crochet techniques, adding both visual appeal and structural integrity.
- Drawstring Closure: A sewn linen lining with a drawstring ensures breathability, keeping bread fresh without becoming soggy or overly hard.
- Eco-Friendly and Reusable: This handmade bag offers a sustainable alternative to plastic or paper bread bags, aligning with environmentally conscious practices.
The skill level for this project is intermediate. Familiarity with tapestry crochet and basic sewing skills for adding the lining are recommended by the designer.
13. Crochet Victorian Drawstring Purse

This Victorian Drawstring Purse Pattern is part of Selina Veronique’s Vintage Crochet series. This particular pattern was inspired by the purses worn during the 19th Century across Europe. It is very elegant! I love that shell stitch edging too.
Worked in double crochet in the round (you’ll need 110yds of worsted #4 weight yarn), you might want to consider lining your purse. If you haven’t lined a bag before, there is a linked video tutorial on the pattern.
Design Features:
- Vintage Aesthetic: The purse showcases a classic Victorian-inspired design, making it a timeless accessory.
- Drawstring Closure: Features a functional drawstring to secure your belongings, adding both practicality and style.
- Versatile Use: Ideal for special occasions or as a thoughtful handmade gift.
The detailed written instructions also include a step-by-step video tutorial to guide you through the creation process.
14. Crochet Dice Bag

Designed for keeping your dice safe, you can also use this pouch to store other small accessories or notions. I’m thinking keeping game board pieces all in one place would be handy too!
You’ll need approximately 82 yards (75 meters) of worsted weight cotton yarn. The pattern suggests using Dishie Cotton, with options for single or multiple colours.
Measurements
- Height: Approximately 7 inches (18 cm).
- Width: Approximately 6 inches (15 cm) when laid flat.
Design Features
- Lemon Peel Stitch: This crochet pouch pattern uses the lemon peel stitch, which alternates single and double crochet stitches to create a textured and visually appealing fabric.
- Drawstring Closure: A crocheted chain drawstring is woven through eyelets near the top, allowing for secure closure and easy access.
- Customization: The pattern offers flexibility with colour choices, enabling personalization to match your style or gaming accessories.
15. Libra Crochet Drawstring Bag

This pattern is paid. You can find out more about the pattern (including tester photos) on Ana-Maria’s website.
The Libra Bag is a bucket bag worked from the bottom up.
You won’t need to line your bag – the dense stitch pattern offers sufficient structure, so there’s no need for a fabric lining.
The base uses the waistcoat stitch for durability, while the body features a grid-like pattern. You’ll be working with mostly variations of single crochet stitches.
The bag is closed with a drawstring at the top and the strap is added last.
The paid pattern includes step-by-step instructions and tutorial photos for the trickier parts of the pattern with a walk through of how to assemble your bag.
The designer has rated this project as advanced beginner.
An ideal crochet beach bag, pair it with one of these stunning crochet dresses.
16. Crochet Drawstring Bag Pattern

This mini pouch is perfect for using up your leftover yarn and can be crocheted in less than an hour – perfect if you’re looking for a smaller project between larger projects!
You’ll need approximately 41 yards of aran/worsted weight yarn. The pattern suggests using Drops Paris 100% cotton yarn.
Measurements:
- Diameter: Approximately 2.75 inches (7 cm).
- Height: Approximately 3.5 inches (9 cm).
Design Features:
- Textured Pattern: The bag features a lovely texture created using a combination of basic crochet stitches and the cluster stitch.
- Flat Bottom: Designed with a flat base, allowing the bag to stand upright when placed on a surface.
- Dual Drawstrings: Two crocheted drawstrings are used for secure closure and easy opening.
The finished bag would make a fab quick and easy gift for storing small such as coins, makeup pads, or other trinkets.
17. Bunny Bag with Drawstrings

This is such a cute bag I couldn’t resist sharing with you! I don’t think it will be just children who like it either 🙂
Worked in continuous rounds with a stitch marker to you keep track, this free pattern has photos to help you alongside the written pattern.
You could experiment with different size hooks and yarn weight to get the size you want. The designer has found a 4.5mm hook with Aran yarn has given the best results.
Not just for Easter, use this drawstring pouch all year round!
18. Santa Drawstring Bag

How creative is this Santa sack from Susanna at Fosbas Designs! Kids and adults alike will love opening the drawstring to find their Christmas gift inside.
The main body is worked in joined rounds of half double crochet. Santa’s hat is worked separately. The applique (Santa’s face and beard) is worked separately and sewn on.
You’ll need worsted weight yarn either in traditional Christmas colours or colours of your choice.
Design Features:
- Festive Aesthetics: Mimics Santa’s classic suit and beard.
- Drawstring Closure: Ensures contents are secure, making it ideal for holding gifts or holiday treats.
