1.Simple Crochet Basket

This beginner crochet basket has a sturdy structure, made with bulky yarn. The smaller size is perfect for showing off your potted plants or organizing small items around your home. This pattern works up quickly (only 17 rounds!) using simple stitches.
What makes this basket unique? That gorgeous edging (in my opinion) takes it up a level.
The free pattern is for the small basket which measures 5″ diameter and 17″ circumference. If you upgrade to the PDF, you’ll also receive instructions for the large size. The crochet large basket pattern size is 7″ diameter and 22″ circumference.
2. Nesting Crochet Baskets

Grace your home with this set of nesting baskets, crocheted with Bernat Softee Chunkee Tweeds yarn (super bulky #6 weight) for extra durability. The simple design makes them great for storing craft supplies, toys, bathroom essentials and even fruit.
The pattern is for sizes 4.5” in diameter, 2.75” in height and 5.5” in diameter, 3.25” in height. However, I think you’ll love how easy it is to adjust the sizing of these crocheted baskets. Add rounds to the bottom if you want a bigger basket and you can build the height on the sides to suit your preference.
Tip! add a loop to make yours a hanging basket or a loop either side for handles.
3. Woven Basket & Pot Holder

This pattern is designed so you can customize it to the size you want. Christine gives examples of the different yarns she used and the finished result.
The stitch pattern mimics a woven look and uses a combination of back loop only for the base and spiked stitches for the sides.
I’m recommending this pattern not only for the clear photos alongside the instructions, but you can also follow along with the video tutorial.
The design makes it great for both storage and as a decorative potholder for plants.
Find out about Christine’s colour changing designs and more in her Behind the Stitches interview.
4. Nesting Planters

This easy crochet basket pattern is designed for plant lovers.
Instructions are for sturdy nesting planters in sizes Small 3 in (7.7 cm), Medium (4 in/10 cm) and Large 5 in (12.7 cm).

A gorgeous and stylish storage solution that would look fab in any room.
6. Mini Basket

This scrap yarn basket is a smaller and quick-to-make project that works best with worsted weight #5 yarn or higher.
A small (6 rounds) but mighty project 🙂 that is great for holding your trinkets, jewellery, tiny gifts or even your crochet notions.
7. Lobelia Nesting Basket

I love the unique texture of this sturdy crochet basket pattern free from Agat at Made by Gootie. The spider stitch and spiked single crochet stitch alternate to create the gorgeous texture.
The pattern uses worsted weight cotton yarn worked with two strands held together. The designer has used Dishie yarn which is durable and should last for years!
You’ll need to be working at an intermediate level to crochet this basket.
A stylish, modern look makes this project a great décor piece. Where will you use yours?
8. Sunflower Basket

This is another pattern that is worked holding two strands of Aran/Worsted weight yarn together.
I love the creative way stitches have been used – working in the back loops for the centre of the sunflower mimics the disc florets and is very effective.
The combination of textured stitches and vibrant colours makes this project perfect for adding a bright touch to any room.
9. Handy Storage Basket

This easy-to-make basket is both practical and durable.
Helen at Sunflower Cottage Crochet used Hooked Spaghetti and a 15mm hook for the grey basket (not pictured) and Paintbox recycled t-shirt yarn and a 12mm hook for the white one above.
If you crochet two using the different size hooks, they should nest perfectly.
Great for storing everyday essentials neatly such as in your bathroom, to store your yarn or even to store your logs.
10. Nesting Baskets

These beginner-friendly set of baskets worked in a continuous round with single crochet are perfect for organizing lots of things – the thing that came to my mind was craft supplies! Each size fits into the previous size snugly which allows you to store them easily when not in use.
I love that there are two walls to this design making this set extra strong.
The baskets measure:
- Small – Diameter 4.5 Inches, Height 3.25 Inches
- Medium – Diameter 5.5 Inches, Height 3.75 Inches
- Large – Diameter 6.5 Inches, Height 4.25 Inches

You can choose between two easy versions of a practical crochet basket with this pattern.

The skill level is easy (beginner-friendly).
14. Sea Waves Basket

Featuring wave-inspired stitchwork created with the tapestry technique, this basket uses t-shirt yarn to create a soft yet durable storage solution.
Raffaella includes recommendations for how to work with this yarn including tips on how to join t-shirt yarn.
I love the couple of options available with this pattern. You can choose whether to add the handles or leave them off and you can choose whether to use a wooden bottom or crochet the bottom.
This gorgeous design will add a coastal touch to your home décor that will be the envy of friends and family.
Find out about Raffaella‘s tapestry crochet pot holders and more in her interview.
15. Chunky Crochet Basket

I LOVE the texture of this basket.
The super bulky yarn makes it thick and sturdy, and the size makes this design a good option if you want to store blankets, toys or your yarn stash.
The base is worked in the waistcoat stitch in continuous rounds with the sides worked in a diagonal chevron stitch pattern. If you haven’t worked these crochet stitches before, follow along with the video tutorial. You’ll gain valuable skills that you can go on to use in other projects.
If you follow the pattern, the circumference is approx. 34″ /86cm. It is easy to make this basket in a different size, just work more or less base rounds before working the sides.
16. Plant Pot Cover

How stylish is this easy crochet basket! If you don’t already have a quart size mason jar or a 4″ diameter flower pot, I’m sure this free pattern will tempt you to buy one.
You’ll work this crochet plant pot holder from the bottom up. The base is crocheted first, then the sides with the embossed crochet hearts, and finally, the fold over ribbed cuff.
Using less than one ball of worsted weight cotton yarn, this cover adds a gorgeous handmade touch to any plant collection.
17. Coaster Holder Basket

Another project that has a gorgeous texture.
This is a quick and easy pattern, designed to hold round crochet coasters that are less than 5″ across (and if you want to make a bigger basket, instructions are also included).

20. Bedroom Basket

Measuring approximately 18″ [45.5 cm] diameter x 14½” [37 cm] tall, this cozy bedroom basket is perfect for storing your bulkier items.
Made with Bernat Blanket Extra Thick Yarn, the main body is stitched in the round using yarn under twisted single crochet.
I love the easy to grab handles making this a fab design for portability.
21. Chevron Storage Baskets

With a striking chevron pattern, this super chunky basket pattern includes four variations:

- Small Basket with handles: 21” around x 7.75” high

22. Dinosaur Toy Storage Basket

I couldn’t resist adding this fun, kid-friendly basket shaped like a dinosaur!
The pattern uses Bernat Baby Blanket yarn to create a sturdy toy storage solution.
You’ll work two strands of yarn held together. Easy to construct, you’ll start with the base, creating a circle that’s formed by doing even increases on each round. Next, you’ll work in the round to form the cylindrical shape. Half the basket’s stitches are worked next in rows to form the opening. Finally, you’ll add the toes, hands, spikes, tail, and teeth.
