The Other Guest Summary

Two women. Two sides of the story. Whose do you trust?

Laila and her husband arrive for a week’s holiday in Greece in desperate need of a reset.

As Laila sits by the pool she finds herself inexplicably drawn to the other family staying in their resort.

Em has no idea who Laila is, or that she has been watching her and her teenage sons and husband so intently.

Five days later their worlds will be blown apart by a horrifying event.

Laila thinks she knows the truth of what happened. But in telling Em what she’s seen, she stands to lose everything she holds dear.

And what if she’s got it wrong?

The Other Guest Review

For Laila, a trip away with her husband James is just what she needs after numerous stressful failed attempts at IVF. They’ve booked an expensive trip to the island of Ixos is Greece and is a chance to reset and connect. After a few days things begin to go wrong.

Laila appears obsessed with some of the other holidaymakers. In particular with Em, her partner Rob and their two teenage children, Isaac and Theo. A mix of intrigue and jealousy fuels her obsession and when there is a murder on the resort she finds herself being part of it, her nosiness revealing some shocking clues as to the reasons.

Other questions arise, such as James’ increasingly strange behaviour and sudden drinking which is out of character. What on earth is happening to her marriage and how are they involved in this murder?

The Other Guest is absolutely excellent and I loved reading it. It didn’t take me long as I was utterly engrossed and invested in all the characters.

I found Laila strange for obsessing with others but equally felt sympathetic to her struggles.

The setting on the Greek resort feels both luxurious and claustrophobic with the amount of mistrust between the guests and even between Laila and her own husband.

The Other Guest is well-written, fast-paced and thrilling … it’s brilliant and I thoroughly recommend it!
