Tales of the Risen Tide Summary

On a map redrawn by the rampant sea-level rise of the twenty-second century, survivors war over the ruins of high-ground whilst pirates and slavers plague the vast new seas that surround them.

But amidst the ashes of the world there remains a place for the young and the brave to call home: The Archon — a ship crewed by orphan thieves, escaped prisoners, and heretic runaways.

They are the Archonauts, and this is their tale.

Tales of the Risen Tide Review

Tales of the Risen Tide is a remarkable first novel written by the talented David M Reynolds. I devoured this YA post-apocalyptic dystopian story. I noticed this is Book 1 and I therefore look forward to the continuation of this series.

The main character Jymn is a plucky, courageous kid who begins this story on a tough workship. He longs to discover life on land, or what is left of it. He finds himself as crew on The Archon, a ship filled with various and well-developed characters.

With pirates and slavers sharing the oceans on the lookout for land and resources, Jymn is preoccupied with discovering information from the past.

I loved the wonderful descriptions of life aboard ship and the intriguing character of Nix. There is plenty of action throughout this story on both land and at sea.

A brilliant portrayal of fantasy and adventure. I highly recommend.

About the Author

A lifelong storyteller, David grew up writing roleplaying adventures for his friends, before graduating to filmmaking in his late teens. After nearly 20 years of making film – everything from zombie action movies to underwater fantasy – David fell head over heels for the uncompromising & pure creative process that is novel writing. His foundation in visual storytelling remains a strong influence in his written work.

When he’s not writing, David loves to cultivate an eclectic set of interests and skills. Current obsessions include learning the Viola, boxing, sailing, and oil painting.

David lives with his eternally patient wife and young children in a sleepy village nestled between the wild woods of Dartmoor and the Devon coastline.
