Take a day out just for you

Your schedule for the day:

Start the day with a nice hot shower or bath, then slip into some clean, comfortable clothing.

Grab a hot beverage, such as cocoa, tea, or coffee and take it to the sofa with you. 

Curl up under a big soft blanket and read, watch television, or enjoy a long winter’s nap. Do what makes you feel your best.

Once you’re rested (and if the weather cooperates!) you can bundle up and get outside to enjoy the fresh air and take a walk. If not, head to your local indoor gym and climb onto the treadmill or bike.

Can’t make it out of the house? Get on your feet right where you are. There are plenty of free workout videos available online. Or, you can always put on your favourite music, and dance around your house.

Getting physically active helps get the blood flowing, and releases feel-good endorphins into your system.

The cold winter winds can be harsh on your skin though so when you get back from being outside, be sure to care for your skin properly.

Apply your favourite moisturiser as often as you like during these winter days. This will keep your skin from becoming overly dry and irritated.

Don’t neglect those forgotten areas, like your lips, cuticles, and feet, because they will need moisture as well.

After you slather on your moisturiser, slip into your pajamas and soft socks to seal the moisture in.

If you need to, schedule in your ‘day out’ self care activity for winter. 

Think of it as a regular appointment such as the hairdresser or regular health check-up.  And don’t miss it!

Beat the boredom

Winter comes around every year, reminding us to retreat within. We may spend more time inside during the winter months, but that doesn’t mean we have to be bored!

Spending a day at a spa leaves you feeling relaxed, refreshed, and all around incredible.

It is possible to enjoy a spa day without the expensive price tag though … with a spa day at home! The perfect self care winter activity.

Here are some ways you can recreate the spa day experience at home:

Stock up on Supplies

Hit up the supermarket and stock up on all the things you need for a spa day: face masks, creamy lotions, luxurious shampoo and conditioner, manicure and pedicure supplies (including a stunning colour of polish), and some cucumbers or fruit to flavour your water. Get some fragrant oil for a massage, if you’ve got a friend or partner who’s going to participate. Don’t forget the bubble bath so you can luxuriate in a nice, warm tub.

Light Scented Candles

One of the greatest benefits of an at home spa day is that you can use your favourite scented candles to truly customise the experience.

Get several of your favourite scented candles and scatter them throughout the house. Light them and enjoy the soothing fragrance, soft light, and gentle warmth they provide.

Don’t Forget The Music

Atmosphere and ambience are everything. For a truly spa-like experience, go for some soft, soothing classical, or perhaps some Enya.

If you have a full-house speaker system, this would be ideal, so you can hear your music throughout the house. Otherwise, create a custom playlist on your phone, connect it to a Bluetooth speaker, and move it around with you.

Take Your Time

In today’s busy world, we have a tendency to rush through everything. Even when there’s a day off, errands or even reading a book tends to be hurried through.

For this to be a true spa day, you need to kick back and take your time.

Savour each experience of the day.

Soak in the bubble bath. Enjoy the massage for as long as possible. Apply the face mask and truly focus on how it feels.

Make sure you won’t be disturbed.

Turn off your phone, your tablet, and your computer. Turn the ringer down on your landline, and consider disconnecting the doorbell. Leave the TV off, and let the newspaper wait. Ignore the outside world and focus on your spa day.
