Welcome to Winters End…
Winters End should have been the perfect place for me and my husband Neil to start again. To leave the terrible secrets and guilt of our past far behind us.
But from the moment we arrived in the small, isolated community, it becomes clear to me that we are not welcome here. That someone wants us to leave…
I’m certain that everyone knows our secrets – knows who we really are. But how can that be?
Perhaps it’s my mind playing tricks on me. Just like before.
I know Neil thinks I’m paranoid. My thoughts spiralling. Again.
If only I had someone else to talk to. Another woman to confide in.
And that’s when I realise something far more terrifying.
I am the only wife at Winters End…and I could be the last…
Book Review
Neil and Fiona are desperate for a new start to put their recent issues behind them and save their marriage. They settle for a new life on the island of Winter’s End, in the North Sea. The island is beautiful, isolated and secluded which is just what they were hoping for. So why does it feel so creepy and dismal?
Soon Fiona starts to feel uneasy about them moving there. Why are there no other women on the island? What happened to their wives and why are the inhabitants being so hostile towards her? Is she just being paranoid? They begin to get threatening notes telling them to leave while they have the chance. Annoyingly, Neil doesn’t take her misgivings seriously but Fiona is determined to find out the truth about this island.
The Last Wife is a dark, creepy and sinister story and I loved it! The descriptions of the atmosphere on the island are so vivid, matching the landscape. I was desperate to find out what happened to the women on Winter’s End.
The first half of the book is told from Fiona’s point of view and the second half from multiple others.
Fiona’s was intense and set the scene and as the book progressed and the action ramped up I was glued!
Eager to find out the secrets of this island and its inhabitants I enjoyed every page!
