Fairytale of New York Summary

Thirty-two-year-old Charlie Brown has a plane to catch.

As Christmas approaches, she is New York bound, to be reunited with boyfriend Harry after work has kept them apart.

But once she lands, Harry is nowhere to be found…

There’s no hand-drawn sign with her name being brandished at the gate. No answer from Harry’s phone. And all at once, Charlie’s worst fears come true.

What has happened to Harry? And what should Charlie do now that she’s an ocean away from home?

As Charlie slowly comes to terms with her predicament, she makes a decision. She’s not leaving New York without finding out the truth, and with a little help from her handsome new friend Pete, there might still be a path to happily-ever-after…

Bestseller Zoë Folbigg returns with a page-turning story of love, friendship and learning to believe in your own worth. Perfect for fans of Mike Gayle, JoJo Moyes and David Nicholls.

Fairytale of New York Review

Charlie has been looking forward to reuniting with her boyfriend Harry, who lives in New York. She’s excited to see him but after she lands there is no sign of Harry anywhere! No welcome or sign and even he’s not even answering his phone. She’s determined to find out what happened to him and soon meets a handsome friend in Pete who can help her.

The only thing she can do while she is there apart from try and find Harry is to explore New York, and see as much of the city as possible, meeting as many of the locals as she can. This is the best way for her to try and make the best out of this situation. Of course, it helps to have a handsome guide!

Fairytale of New York is a wonderfully escapist read which whisked me off to New York at Christmas time while I read.

I really liked Charlie’s character and despite not having any proper closure with Harry I rooted for her and Pete as there seemed to be more depth to their relationship.

It’s a quick read but it packs in a lot and I loved the feeling of hope that it conveys!

Charlie’s life changes for the better and once she comes to terms with what has happened, she lets herself go along for the ride.

Fairytale of New York is a lovely book, it got me in the festive mood and reminded me of visits to New York!
