Run by sisters Rebecca and Delphine, Villa Sesame is a popular venue for small intimate weddings on the sparkling French Riviera. Beautiful terraces and a horizon pool overlook the Mediterranean, a setting where dreams come true.

When recently widowed Delphine unexpectedly announces her desire to retire and live a different life, Rebecca feels her own life could be slipping into free fall.

How can she possibly carry on with the business without her sister at her side? Could this be the beginning of the end for Villa Sésame and Rebecca’s life as she knows it?

As the guests gather for the June wedding of Freya and Marcus, Freya’s two childhood friends bring their own problems to the villa and cousin Verity has her own agenda.

But it’s the arrival of a certain guest who throws Rebecca’s whole world into turmoil and she finds herself asking the question, where do I go from here?

Book Review

Delphine and Rebecca are sisters who run the Villa Sesame on the French Riviera. They have turned their dream into a beautiful setting for weddings and events and have poured their hearts and souls into making it a success. However, since the death of her husband, Delphine has decided she has had enough of all the hard work and would like to retire after years of being a brilliant chef. Rebecca is stunned but understands and together they agree that the next wedding will be Delphine’s last.

Freya and Marcus are planning a dream wedding at the villa. It’s the second time they are marrying each other after divorcing and getting back together. Keen to recreate their original wedding they are excited to go through it all again at Villa Sesame. It means bringing Freya’s best friends together again and the fact that her cousin Verity will also be there creates a lot of apprehension, as there is clearly a history there. Both her friends Clemmie and Angela are bringing their own issues with them also.

This book was pure escapism for me and the setting is divine. I could imagine being there with them all and enjoyed reading about their friendships, trials and tribulations. I loved the fact that the characters are for once older than the usual protagonists I read about, which gave them lots of depth and substance. Themes of friendship, forgiveness and grief weave through the story and I enjoyed the colloquial, easy style of the author’s writing.

Villa of Second Chances is a great read in a stunning location with a variety of interesting characters.
