Rising star attorney Thomas Berte just got the promotion of a lifetime. And a warrant with his name on it…

As the new Deputy Attorney General, Tom’s first assignment should be straightforward: take down Cosimo “Nino” Benedetto, the untouchable head of a global crime syndicate. Follow the money, build the case, get the conviction.

But the financial trails lead straight back to his old law firm—the prestigious powerhouse that launched his career. Now the hunter has become the hunted, and there’s only one move left: get closer to the man he came to indict.

The Manipulator Review

The Manipulator by Dan Buzzetta is an intriguing thriller built around ambition, power, and deception.

Thomas Berte is a driven and ambitious lawyer, focused on climbing the ranks at his prestigious law firm. When he is unexpectedly offered the role of Deputy Attorney General by the US Attorney General, Tom feels compelled to accept — even though it appears to be a step backwards in his career. The move is presented as a strategic sacrifice, with the promise of future advancement on his return to private practice.

Assigned to help capture criminal kingpin Cosimo Benedetto, Tom soon realises that the opportunity comes at a cost. As events unfold, it becomes clear that he has been manipulated, and the situation is far more dangerous than he initially believed.

While the novel has a slower start, I found the second half gains momentum and delivers a much stronger pace.

I particularly enjoyed the twists and turns, as well as the development of Tom’s relationship with his girlfriend, which added depth to the story.

Overall, this was a compelling read filled with blackmail, secrets, lies, and betrayal.

Dan Buzzetta is a litigation partner in a national law firm with over 1,100 attorneys, and a mafia aficionado. His series is inspired, in part, by a fascination with all things mafia and an actual case where he worked closely with the Department of Justice and FBI. After several years, Dan’s team succeeded in recovering over $240 million on behalf of thousands of innocent investors swindled by foreign nationals. He is a graduate of Tufts University and Fordham Law School. In his spare time, he enjoys traveling and skiing with his wife and three children. He is also a volunteer firefighter in his hometown of Colts Neck, NJ.
