He travelled through time to capture her heart.
Ivar Thoresson is desperate for adventure. As an archaeologist specialising in Viking times, he wants nothing more than to travel back to the ninth century as his loved ones have done, to learn everything he can about the era which fascinates him. And whilst his adopted family have always made him feel loved, the chance to meet a true ancestor, the warrior Thorald, is a temptation he cannot resist.
But while Ivar is preparing to go, he uncovers an amulet which shows him a vision of an arresting woman with red-gold hair. Clearly in distress, she is pleading for help. Convinced of the power of the charm and its message, Ivar’s journey takes on a new purpose. He steps back in time determined to follow his destiny – and find the woman who has called to his heart.
Book Review
Ivar’s two older sisters have time travelled back to Viking times, as detailed in previous books in the series (which I loved – so I was thrilled to be reading this one!). He longs to time travel as well and his chance arises when he is in possession of an artefact from the era. Visions of a beautiful woman also appear to him and he is instantly intrigued to be going on a journey of his own.
He longs to see his sisters again, in the 9th century, and prepares for an epic journey. Although sad to leave his family behind he simply must experience life in Viking Scandinavia himself. What follows is a breathtaking journey to another time and land, both brutal and beautiful. The love story between himself and the beautiful red- headed woman who appeared to him in flashes – Ellisif – is intense and soon he must choose which life he belongs to.
I adored Promises of the Runes as much as the previous ones I have read in the series.
The descriptions of Viking life are vivid and brilliantly portrayed, the author’s research shining through.
I was captivated by Ivar and Ellisif’s story and felt immersed in the era, which I loved!
Promise of the Runes is beautiful and intriguing and I cannot wait to read the next one in this series!
