You never forget the one that got away, do you?
Nell Mason is extremely happy with her life – or at least, that’s what she tells herself. She’s lucky to have a high-powered job as a lawyer, even if it does come with an eccentric set of billionaire divorce clients. And she’s absolutely fine living with her sweet, if slightly dull, boyfriend Gus in their London flat where they have very sensible sex once (OK, sometimes twice) a week. She’s definitely not stuck in a rut.
But when Nell bumps into childhood friend and first love Arthur Drummond who broke her heart fifteen years ago, she’s more than a little shaken. The seemingly perfect life she’s worked so hard for starts to feel, well, less perfect. Maybe Nell’s been kidding herself all these years. Can she ever get over her first love?
Book Review
Nell is perfectly content in her life with her partner Gus. He doesn’t set her pulse racing, and that’s ok as she doesn’t want that anyway (or so she thinks). She’s got a brilliant job as a lawyer and is gunning for a promotion. They live together in their flat in London so on the surface they have the perfect life.
One day her ex, Arthur, comes back into her life. She was 21 when they broke up and there is a lot of unfinished business between the two of them.
Soon, Nell starts to question whether she is actually happy at all. Arthur has stirred up feelings inside her that she thought were long gone and her life begins to seek boring and second-rate.
Will she make the right decision between her old and current life?
This is the second book I’ve read by Sophia Money-Coutts and once again I found her writing sharp, witty and engaging.
There were genuine laugh out loud moments and I adored the character of Nell who is intelligent, smart and extremely likeable.
I found Gus quite smarmy and didn’t really like him at all at the beginning.
The humour in this book sets it apart from others in this genre and I found I couldn’t wait to get stuck in to the story each day and find out what happens next to Nell.
Did You Miss Me? is a well-written and addictive read which left a huge smile on my face by the end (loved the epilogue), and I can’t wait to read more from the author as I can always guarantee I’ll love it. She’s now one of my favourites. Light-hearted and enjoyable all the way through.

Sophia Money-Coutts is a British journalist and author who spends most of her time writing at her kitchen table in West London and making 59 cups of tea a day.
She has written two novels – The Plus One and What Happens Now? – and hopes to carry on writing books that make people laugh forever. Because we could all do with more of a laugh, these days, couldn’t we?
Sometimes, if she’s not drinking lukewarm cups of tea in her leggings at home, she appears on radio and television talking about important topics such as Prince Harry’s wedding and the etiquette of the threesome.
