Book Review: Circle of Secrets by Ceril Campbell

We’re delighted to be sharing Laura’s thoughts about Circle of Secrets. She thoroughly enjoyed this glamorous and scandalous story set in the 1980’s.

Book cover of Circle of Secrets by Ceril Campbell, featuring a red background and stylised illustrations of three glamorous women.

In the glamorous world of fashion, fame, and power, beauty hides blemishes and success conceals scars.

When a young model disappears in Europe, her absence begins to expose the hidden fractures beneath the industry’s most glamorous elite. While a circle of friends, whose worlds – built on ambition, betrayal, and silence – begin to crack and truths that could destroy them all claw their way to the surface.

At the height of the hedonistic 1980s, from the polished veneer of the modelling world in London and Milan, to the freedom of Soho where identities blur, lives begin to unravel. Mothers haunted by loss, beautiful women desperate to bury their past, and powerful men entangled in guilt, desire, and control.

Circle of Secrets Review

At the heart of the story is a circle of friends, each carrying secrets of their own. There’s Simon, who is secretly a drag queen and has a hidden lover; his friend Paula, who is heartbroken after being left by her lover when his wife becomes ill; and Jade, a young woman with a promising modelling career who is swept up in the glamour of the fashion world. Then there’s Chloe, a character determined to uncover everyone’s secrets and use what she discovers to gain power over them.

Jade suffers at the hands of rich, powerful men and her beauty is used by these individuals. Her vulnerability at times is tricky to read as she discovers the evil side of modelling. I raced through her chapters as she was such an interesting character.

I loved that this story shared a vibe of Rivals (the show and the book).

Circle of Secrets is filled with secrets, betrayal, twists and intrigue all set in a much-loved decade.

I loved this book and especially the ending. A wonderful read.
