Carrie Anderson’s business selling books at her local train station is thriving and, with her beloved Mike returned from war, everything feels as though it is falling into place. That is, until Mike is sent to Washington as a liaison between Britain and America.
When her twin brother, Johnnie, a fighter pilot, is injured, and her bookstall falls on hard times, Carrie misses the sage advice and comfort of Mike more than ever.
Bolstered by her supportive station community, can Carrie battle through this challenging new chapter and reach the happy ending she deserves?
A New Chapter at the Little Penguin Bookshop Review
I enjoyed this next instalment of the Penguin Bookshop series. Carrie is a wonderful character with strength and hope for a better future. This book is the second book in the series however I believe this book could be read as a standalone.
Carrie, who runs her own business selling Penguin six penny titles at her local train station is kind, determined and brave. I enjoyed her character. She is well liked and loves books!
Set in 1941 with food rationing in full swing and the constant battering of the blitz it is a hard time for all. Sadly for Carrie and her fiancé Mike that he is stationed in America to become a liaison between the two nations.
Carrie’s brother Johnnie, a fighter pilot is injured but good things start to happen as he realises the short falls of life.
The community feel of this story is strong. Carrie looks after and is looked after by many. At times there is conflict and drama. Overall I found A New Chapter at the Little Penguin Bookshop to be a heart-warming story.
This has been a joy to read.
