Rose’s life is not going as smoothly as she would like. The family are living in a small apartment, her situation is the complete opposite of all the other mothers at Woolf Academy. They are all wealthy, well-connected and belong to ‘The Circle’, somewhere Rose doesn’t think she will ever get into.
When the chance for her to be part of the group presents itself, Rose thinks it is just the thing to lift her family out of their position of relative poverty. Being a part of the clique will elevate their standing and her son will be accepted and fit in at the Academy. However, Rose comes face to face with the reality of the lives of these women and the depths they (and she) will go to in order to protect their children.
I absolutely adored Such A Good Mother as it is exactly the kind of story that appeals to me.
I love reading about the mechanics of friendships and am fascinated by the politics of the school gate as it’s something that has always baffled me!
This is a bunch of women who really take their mothering to the next level.
There is backstabbing and bitching and skilled political manoeuvring and I felt for Rose not really knowing what she had gotten herself into!
This book is easy to read and I enjoyed each page. It’s really well written and I loved delving into these women’s lives.
Such A Good Mother is a juicy, riveting read which I relished from start to finish.
Helen Monks Takhar has been working as a journalist, copyeditor and magazine editor since 1999, having graduated from Cambridge. She began her career in financial trade newspapers before writing for national newspapers including The Times, The Observer and The Daily Telegraph.
Originally from Southport, Merseyside, she lives in Stoke Newington with her husband and two young children.
