Are you a coffee enthusiast … or are you moving towards addiction?

I’m delighted to be welcoming my guest Rudy Caretti today.   Rudy has more than 15 years of experience in the coffee industry, a passion that started in Italy within the family business and brought him to found Gimoka Coffee UK with a group of friends, who share the same passion.

Considered the birthplace of espresso, Italians are very passionate about coffee and they have a strict set of rules on how coffee should be made and drank…so strict that some Italians will only drink their coffee from a specific bar as well as a specific barista!  Coffee enthusiasts are often connoisseurs.  But is there a difference between being a coffee enthusiast and being addicted?  Rudy says yes!

Coffee enthusiast

This day and age, coffee has become a go-to-drink for every working person. Whether you are trying hard to meet that college project deadline or just working overtime at the office; coffee is that magical concoction which helps battle any stressful situation. But for some, coffee is much more than an energy booster. These people are the more exciting coffee consumers known as the coffee enthusiasts. For true coffee enthusiasts it is also about the flavor and aroma and the matters involving the quality of a perfect cup of Joe. Listed below are 5 signs that tell a true coffee fiend and the level of coffee snobbery you are at.  Can you relate to it?

Rise and Shine only After a Cup of coffee?

They say that your one true love is the first person you think about when you wake up and the last person you think of at night. For coffee enthusiasts that person is a finely brewed cup of coffee. An exotic aroma wafts through their rooms as they start every morning with a nice cup of coffee. Morning caffeine acts as a mild stimulant that helps you get through the day.

Talk about the 3 pm slump! Getting past the day after lunch without coffee, whether its latte, espresso or just good old filter; seems impossible.

You know the best cuppa in town

True coffee enthusiasts are more like a coffee elitist. They know the ins and outs of every cafe in town and people actually seek their recommendation when it comes to finding the best brew. 450 milligrams; 204º Fahrenheit; beans from Kenya; medium to medium-dark all this makes sense to them as they know everything about a good cuppa. They prize coffee and love to explore the different brew recipes. Coffee enthusiasts are very opinionated when it comes to coffee, almost to the point of stubbornness.

You love everything that tastes and smells of coffee

For coffee enthusiasts, it is and always will be about a fine brew. They appreciate the exquisite flavors and rich aroma that exudes from a flavourful cup of coffee. Whether it is iced, latte, gourmet, French pressed, pour-over, percolated or simply a black coffee, they love it just as it is. You’ll find them nodding at everything that tastes and smells of coffee; coffee ice cream, cake or cookie they are just hooked.

Everything from seasons to stress is an excuse for coffee

Where summers are a time to break out the iced lattes, winters become an excuse for an extra cup of cappuccino.

Everything from a stressful day at work to a lazy Sunday afternoon is an excuse for having coffee. It is the magical potion, which cheers you up on a bad day and fuels you through a busy day. Plus, you know coffee improves your focus; relieves a headache; is a source of antioxidants etc. etc. Even the little-known health benefits of coffee become an excuse for drinking coffee.

Drinking Coffee is an experience

Coffee enthusiasts are always looking for experiences with their coffee. Every rich, flavourful and rare cup of Joe induces creativity and spurs their imagination. It makes them a better human by cultivating a positive feeling, which encourages them to conquer the moment. Coffee fills them with energy with every sip of the brew.

Coffee enthusiasts put rich flavor and quality over quantity. They are concerned with what constitutes the brew and recognize the complex flavors that make it a splendid experience to have.

Are you getting addicted to it?

The level of coffee snobbery varies from person to person but a coffee enthusiast and a coffee addict want foundationally different things. For a coffee addict convenience and consistency always comes first. They accept the coffee to offer consistency more than experience.

A coffee addict is super grumpy before his first dose every morning and has a pounding headache on skipping one routine cup of coffee. They need caffeine to concentrate and stay alert every single day and trying to cut back on coffee is next to impossible.
