Cornwall, 1863. On a windswept beach, Maggie Pascoe watches in horror as her family is lost to the sea. Her father and three brothers are among dozens of fishermen from the town of St Branok who perish in a summer storm.
Destitute and alone, she finds comfort in her friendship with widow Norah Bray, whose young son also drowned in the disaster.
But the tragedy was no accident. As Maggie battles to uncover the truth, she hides a devastating secret – one that could destroy her bond with Norah forever.
Inspired by a true story, The Silver Tide is a powerful tale of love, betrayal and one woman’s courageous fight for justice.
The Silver Tide Review
A wonderful historical fiction inspired by a true story.
Set in Cornwall in 1863, The Silver Tide follows Maggie Pascoe, who suffers the heartbreak of losing family members when tragedy strikes her coastal village of St Branok. Like many others, she must face the devastating reality of the sea claiming the lives of local fishermen.
But Maggie carries a secret — one that could threaten her friendship with fellow widow Norah. When she begins to suspect that the tragedy was no accident, her determination to uncover the truth only grows stronger.
I enjoyed Maggie’s character and her relationships with Norah and Jack. She’s a resilient and courageous woman, driven by love and loss to seek answers. She’s unwavering in her quest to seek the truth.
The Cornish landscape and ever-present sea add an atmospheric sense of tension and suspense throughout the story.
I appreciated the author’s note at the end, which gives extra insight into the real events behind the story.
Highly recommended.
