Book Review: Love’s A Witch by Tricia O’Malley

I’m delighted to be sharing my thoughts about Love’s A Witch.

This magical rom-com swept me straight into Briarhaven, where family drama, sizzling chemistry and mischievous magic kept me smiling from start to finish.

The hand‑lettered title is set against a sparkling magenta background, evoking a cozy, magical atmosphere that matches the book’s witchy, romantic vibes.

She’s hexed. He’s vexed. And for Scotland’s most magical small-town, their feud might just spell disaster.

Sloane MacGregor swore she’d never return to Briarhaven, but with her twenty-fifth birthday looming – the day witches come into their magic – her grandmother summons her and her sisters back for one tiny task: break the centuries-old curse haunting their bloodline.

Knox Douglas, Briarhaven’s grumpy mayor, has worked tirelessly to make his town a haven for magical folk. The last thing he needs is a cursed MacGregor wreaking havoc. It doesn’t matter he once crushed on her. For the sake of Briarhaven, Sloane has to go.

But magic has other plans – and in Briarhaven, love really is a witch.

Love’s A Witch Review

The prologue sets the foundation beautifully – it’s 1713, and Vaila uses her blood magic to cast a curse on Bonelle and all her descendants. From there, the story sweeps into the present day, with most chapters narrated by Sloane and a few from Knox’s point of view. I always enjoy this mix because it adds depth and lets us see the leads from different angles.

The tension between Knox’s desire to evict the MacGregor’s and Sloane’s determination to stay is clear from the moment the sisters arrive at their family home in Briarhaven.  But Sloane’s running internal commentary had me laughing.  That humour threads through the whole book, making it such an entertaining read.

I absolutely love the concept of Briarhaven. I could happily live there myself! There’s never a dull moment with the MacGregor sisters and their gran. Sloane and Knox are easy to connect with, and it is clear what drives them and shapes their relationship. The “hot and spicy” scenes fit perfectly, adding to their attraction rather than overshadowing the plot.

There’s so much to enjoy here: fabulous characters, engaging relationships and friendships, the magic (and familiars – Blue the emberwolf is so adorable), plus secrets, rivalry, and misconceptions. Sloane’s unpredictable magic, often tied to her emotions, had me grinning – I could see that glitter ball exploding and showering everyone in sparkles!

Love’s A Witch is an absolute tonic – a sparkling mix of romance, laughter, and enchantment. I was reluctant to leave Briarhaven, but I’m already excited for what’s next in the Scottish Charm series.

Don’t miss the bonus chapters mentioned in the author’s note; they wrap up Sloane’s story beautifully with one of the most fabulous scenes.

If you love humour, romance and a plenty of Scottish spell-casting, you’re in for such a treat with Love’s A Witch.
