Set in the fictional Sussex village of Blossom Heath, and featuring characters you will know and love from Julie Haworth’s RNA Katie Fforde Debut of the Year Always By Your Side and follow up New Beginnings at The Cosy Cat Café, Bea’s Book Wagon is a cosy, uplifting and comforting romance that tells the story of two love-interest heroes vying for Bea’s heart – her artisan-cheesemaking childhood sweetheart and a knock-you-off-your-feet property developer.
After impulsively jacking in her dead-end temp job and investing her life savings in a ramshackle old horsebox, Bea sets about turning her dream of running a bookshop into a reality, and opens Bea’s Book Wagon. But it’s not all smooth sailing, and as Bea struggles with the challenges of running her own small business, she can only hope that her love of literature and the power of reading can help transform the lives of her friends, her community and herself in the process.
Bea’s Book Wagon Review
Right from the start, the story jumps straight into Bea’s problem – a nightmare boss at her temping job. It doesn’t take long before she’s handing in her notice and, in a wonderfully impulsive moment, “drunk” buying a horsebox that definitely needs some attention.
The contrast between Lochlan – all glitz and glamour but with little real substance – and Nate, who’s always there for Bea and never too busy to support her, really stood out. But Bea’s Book Wagon is about more than a love story featuring a converted horsebox. Bea’s ideas and her determination to put them into action bring people together in the most heart-warming ways. From book speed dating to the book club, I loved seeing new connections spark, friendships form and a reluctant reader turn into a fan.
Characters can be so annoying at times can’t they! There are moments when Bea had me tutting and shaking my head (because you can see what they can’t – well, Jess could see – love how she let Bea make her own way through). And yes, there were definitely a few tears from me when things looked like they might fall apart – but the way it all came together left me smiling.
I also really enjoyed the little extra at the end. Such a lovely touch!
I loved being back in Blossom Heath. It was such a treat to see the Cosy Cat Café still going strong (you might remember I adored Julie’s New Beginnings at the Cosy Cat Café – here’s my review) and to catch up with some familiar characters.
Julie Haworth has once again created an inspiring, uplifting story that feels like a warm hug. If you’re looking for a read that might just motivate you to make some changes of your own – while giving you that cosy community feel – this one’s for you.
