Ammonite at Doniford Beach

When we were in Porlock this summer we visited Doniford Beach in Somerset (great for rock pooling, fossil hunting and dogs!).

We’re no strangers to fossils having spent some time through the years at Charmouth but I have to admit, the size of one of the ammonites at Doniford Beach took us totally by surprise!  Hidden by the sea, it’s revealed when the tide is out (you probably know that in Somerset, the tide goes out a long way!).  It’s remarkably intact.

Taz loved it here 🙂

One word of warning if you’re taking little ones – you have to navigate a ramp down to the beach from the small car park which might be difficult for little legs …

Have a great week!
