I’m delighted to be on Rachel’s Random Resources tour today hosting T L Mahrt in my hot seat who is chatting to us about Withstanding the Enemy.
Withstanding the Enemy by T L Mahrt is available to purchase in digital, paperback and audio book formats.
Emma Andrews was orphaned at a young age with no family to turn to. Tired of the broken foster-care system, and believing it was her only option, she runs to a multi-millionaire with a reputation of hiring young women. It is only then that she learns what real monsters look like…
Emma uses her overactive imagination to help her get through the toughest of days. By daydreaming a life full of love and freewill, she manages her colorless prison, but even in her wildest dreams, she would have never imagined it could become a reality. That is, until she meets Chance, a man willing to lay his life down to save hers.
But what Emma doesn’t expect is to fight her own personal demons—her heart.
Hi and welcome to Jera’s Jamboree.
Please summarise Withstanding the Enemy in 20 words or less.
Emma must learn her strengths to endure the life she’s destined to live and the man, she is to love.
What was the idea/inspiration for your novel?
I had a dream about one of the scenes in the novel that I kept thinking about. One day, I wrote the scene out and sat on it for a few years before I picked it up and built the story from the scene. The scene is in the middle of the novel.
What scene was the hardest to write?
The scene where Emma is looking at herself in the mirror like a stranger. It was the last scene I added into the book because I knew I needed something deep there but I had a hard time writing it.
Who would you cast in the role of your characters if your book were optioned for a movie?
I like this question.
I have had Emma casted for a long time … Amanda Seyfried. That one is easy for me.
Chance, with the built and blond hair, Chris Hemsworth. Yummy!
Rick, I have to say, I picture him as Joe Manganiello.
And Andy, is a bit harder, but am I going to have to go with Henry Cavill.
If you could have given your characters one piece of advice before the opening pages of the book, what would it be …
I would take Emma by the hand and tell her that she will be going through hell but in the end, she will be stronger for it.
Do you have a theme for your book covers? Who designs them?
I do. I have a color and word theme throughout “With Emma Series” each book title starts with the word ‘with.’ First book is titled, Withstanding the Enemy, color theme is purple. Book two is titled, Within the Shadows, color theme is blue. Book Three title is not released yet but the color theme is red. My cover art is done by http://prettyininkcreations.com/
Do you have a most creative time of day?
I am a stay at home mom, so, I do most of my writing in the evening after my kids are in bed.
Finally, what has been the best part of your writing journey so far?
Honestly, the people that I have met, specially my editor. She is amazing. I couldn’t have done this without her. I can truly say, it’s the best part of this journey. She pushes me to better myself as a writer.
Thank you for being my guest. Wishing you success with all your writing projects.
