Hi Cristina,

Welcome to Jera’s Jamboree.

Please summarise A Little of Chantelle Rose in 20 words or less.

A role to play that may strip her of everything, except her name: Chantelle Rose.

What was the idea/inspiration for your novel?

After graduating from Loughborough University with a degree in Sports Science, I travelled and worked in various jobs. One of which was as an extra in a British produced gangster film which was filmed in Nerja, Spain. It goes without saying that my sport mechanics and kinetic energy knowledge wasn’t put to maximum potential in this part-time job. But it was certainly a fun and unique experience, but most importantly it gave me an idea.

A year later I sat down and within three months I had written my 90 K novel.

Who would you cast in the role of your characters if your book were optioned for a movie?

(images supplied by author)

My cast would be:

Selena Gomez as Chantelle Rose. I’d choose Selena because of her dark looks and up- beat, happy-go-lucky personality. Both Selena and Chantelle are 24 years old too, so that’s a perfect match. (Though Selena would have to improve her British accent a little to get the role spot on!)

Matt Bomer as Lionel King. Lionel is the epitome of class and elegance. I didn’t need to look far to find Matt Bromer to fill this role.

Henry Cavill as  Robbie. I need someone similar in looks to Lionel, but with an extra ragged edge. Henry is perfect. A British actor for a British character.

Do you have a most creative time of day Cristina?

It’s not  a “creative” time of day as such, but as I have to fit my writing in around the day job, school runs, house work, keeping up some sort of social life and staying sane at the same time, the only moment I have to write is either very late at night or very early in the morning. I prefer to wake up very early, 5.30 a.m. to be precise, to get a few words in and I have to admit the quite of early dawn is, at least to me, quite magical.

Do you have a favourite place you go to for inspiration or a favourite activity?

Listening to music definitely gives me ideas. The music I select depends on the scene I’m working on. Watching a beautiful sunset / sunrise always triggers off my creative side also.

Panster or a plotter?

Panster. I begin with a vague idea which then propels me off to a journey into the unknown.

Which, if you think about it, has to be a plus, because if I don’t even know the ending to my novel until the last few chapters I should keep my readers guessing too!

Can you share what you’re currently working on Cristina?

My current WIP is a bit of a secret a the moment. If you read my debut novel you’ll understand why.

Which authors have influenced your writing?

I would have to say Enid Blyton, no so much that she inspired me to become a writer or influences my writing style as such, rather she made me a reader. As a child, I read all her Famous Five books. She opened a magical world to me and passion for reading that has accompanied my whole life. She inspired me to read and from the reader the writer is born.

Finally Cristina, are there any tips you could share with new writers?

The main advice I would offer is: “never give up,” which can be applied to any aspect of life really. For those struggling to finish their WIP (or even those who want to write but haven’t started their project yet) consistency is the key, just write a few words everyday. Don’t be overwhelmed by the thought that you have to write thousands of words a day, choose a realistic, manageable daily word count like 400 hundred words or so and you’ll get there in the end.

Thank you for being my guest today Cristina.

Wishing you success with all your writing projects.

At the age of twenty-four, Chantelle Rose has all a city girl can expect: a tiny bed-sit in South London, a lousy poorly-paid job, a tyrannical boss, and quite a few exes added to an ever-growing list.

Desperate for change, she becomes an extra in a seedy crime film. When that leads to the opportunity of a lifetime – a role to play with a million dollars to win and seemingly nothing to lose – she accepts without thinking twice. After all, what could possibly go wrong? In any event, she´ll earn enough to buy her dream home, set up her own business and never worry about money again.

And what about love? Two men have won her heart: Robbie – sultry, silent, mysterious; and Lionel – Hollywood heart-throb, charm, wealth, adventure.

But who can she trust? Who is bent on scaring her away, and why?

There seems to be more at stake than just her heart. Will a million dollars be worth it?
