Beth has always known there was something strange about her daughter, Hannah. The lack of emotion, the disturbing behaviour, the apparent delight in hurting others… sometimes Beth is scared of her, and what she could be capable of.

Luke comes from the perfect family, with the perfect parents. But one day, he disappears without trace, and his girlfriend Clara is left desperate to discover what has happened to him.

As Clara digs into the past, she realizes that no family is truly perfect, and uncovers a link between Luke’s long-lost sister and a strange girl named Hannah. Now Luke’s life is in danger because of the lies once told and the secrets once kept. Can she find him before it’s too late?

Available to purchase in digital, paperback and audio formats.

The story revolves around the disappearance of Luke, a young man full of life and vigour but who is holding secrets. His girlfriend Clara decides to start investigating his friends and family in the hope of finding him.

Chapters are shared between the present and the past, with the past narrated by Beth, a mother who focuses on her daughter Hannah and her increasing disturbing behaviour. A secret heard from an early age adds to the build up towards an exciting and thrilling ending. Certain chapters tease out small amounts of information to keep the pages turning.

I thoroughly enjoyed this psychological thriller. In fact I couldn’t put it down. Fortunately for me, a rare baby free day gave me a fantastic opportunity to read this book in one day.

I enjoy reading thrillers with unpredictable twists and The Lies We Told did not disappoint. An intriguing story from the prologue all the way to the end displaying themes of family, betrayal and revenge.

A captivating tale and I look forward to reading more by Camilla Way.
