We booked our ‘upside down cottage’ at the last minute. With prices starting from £274, sleeping 4 and with pets welcome by arrangement we thought we had a very attractive deal! It was affordable and well within our price range.
The customer service we received was first class and our deposit was returned not long after we had returned home.

The living area is upstairs making the most of those stunning views across the estuary.
We were very comfortable in the cottage with all mod cons and with a balcony overlooking the Exe estuary, it was perfect for us.
Lympstone is an affluent village. One thing we noticed was that the properties are well maintained. And that’s from the cottages in the village and in the harbour to the large houses on the outskirts of the village.
Did we look in Estate Agents windows while we were there? You bet we did! We quite liked a Grade II listed cottage …
Our first stop was at The Swan Inn (three pubs in Lympstone village and one on the outskirts, spoiled for choice!).
We noticed many cyclists going past the pub.
The Exe Estuary Trail is joined from behind the train station (quite close to the pub) and it became obvious during our stay that Lympstone is a village that cyclists either stop in for refreshments or whizz by as they exit the Exe Estuary Trail.
Food was delicious at The Swan.

From Lympstone, with the tide out, you can walk to Exmouth

Peters Tower is a Grade II listed building and it’s now a holiday rental!
A bit of background, the Peters family were successful Liverpool merchants. William Peters built this clock tower in 1885 as a memorial to his wife.

We ordered takeout a couple of times from The Globe Inn. Their outside area overlooks the harbour. The fish and chips were divine 🙂 and what a view!
There is a convenience store in the village and an ice cream parlour. When we were there, a cottage displayed homemade produce in their garden for customers to purchase.
We found Lympstone central for exploring beaches and the city of Exeter.
If you’re a family who enjoy cycling it’s a good base for the Exe Estuary Trail.
Lympstone itself is a quiet village. The locals are friendly (we had many chats in The Swan) and the views are awesome.
There is parking which was about 5 minutes from the cottage we rented.
Lympstone is an affordable destination that you’ll love.
We had so much fun and laughter on this holiday (although we missed our first family holiday without our eldest). It was a carefree week out of time.
