The Five Best Beaches in Dorset

We’re very fortunate to be a 10 minute drive away from one of our favourite beaches (if you’re a friend on FB or catch my IG posts you’ll have seen me share photos of Durley/Middle Chine).  Out of season we love to go during the day but when it’s busy with those on holiday, early evening is the best time with a dog.

If you’re visiting the area, our coastline is one of the places you should visit.  My guest today, Westcountry Resorts are sharing the five best beaches in Dorset.

The Five Best Beaches in Dorset

What could be better than unwinding on the beach, with a good book in one hand and an ice cream in the other? Dorset’s Jurassic Coast offers a plethora of gorgeous beaches for you to escape to, whether you’re local to the area or just travelling down for a holiday.

Freshwater Beach

Freshwater Beach is a family-orientated holiday park with a private beach, perfect for those who dream of having the beach on their doorstep. From tent pitches to holiday homes, there is accommodation to suit every budget and, best of all, there is plenty to entertain the kids. Freshwater Beach is ideal for those wanting to escape the hustle and bustle of day-to-day life.

Lulworth Cove

Just around the corner from Durdle Door, this gorgeous white pebble cove is sheltered and serene. Characteristic of the Jurassic coast, Lulworth Cove is well-known for its unique geology. Though, of course, it can be enjoyed purely for its gorgeous clear waters, attractive pebbles and panoramic views. The perfect spot for some rest and relaxation!

Ringstead Bay

Ringstead Bay is a shingle and pebble beach with offshore reefs that can be seen at low tide. This dog-friendly beach is secluded, rural and offers fantastic views of Weymouth and Portland from the cliffs that surround the bay.

Cobb Beach

This small, sandy beach is another tourist favourite, particularly because of its picturesque curved harbour. Cobb Beach is ideally located just a stone’s throw from restaurants and cafes, so you can take the opportunity to indulge in some local produce. To make the most of the sea views, we recommend following the coastal path to explore the fossil-bearing cliffs. But don’t forget to pack a picnic and bring your favourite book along, too.

Chesil Cove

Popular with scuba divers due to its history of shipwrecks, Chesil Cove can also be enjoyed by anyone longing for a tranquil seaside getaway. Chesil means pebble in old English and it is most definitely the rustic pebbles that make this quaint little cove unique.

It’s undeniable, the beach is the perfect location to relax your body, reset your mind and simply get away from it all. Hopefully, this blog post has given you some beach inspiration for the coming Spring and Summer months.

Do you have any beaches to add?
