Colm O’Flynn was loved by his close circle of family and friends, however his death came too soon for everyone to make peace with their past.

Shauna, his second wife, adored him. But one night she broke their marriage vows, and didn’t get time to ask Colm’s forgiveness.

Jess was the first Mrs O’Flynn. Her heart is set on someone new, but will the last one night stand she shared with Colm come back to haunt her?

Colm’s best friend, Dan, is recently divorced. Can he take a second shot at happiness if it means betraying the one person who always had his back?

What no-one knows is that somewhere out there Colm left messages that could set them free to start over again.

Can divine intervention help them find Colm’s last wishes before it’s too late to love again?

Book Review

Shauna and Colm had been together for years and have a little girl called Beth. Their happiness shatters into a million pieces however when Colm dies.

Five years on and Shauna is still completely stuck in her grief. She doesn’t know how to move on and her life is in a strange sort of limbo. She’s great friends with Colm’s ex wife Jess and Dan who was his best friend. All of them are going through the same grief and devastation, the light in their world having gone out when Colm died.  Until divine intervention steps in …

The Story of Our Secrets is absolutely wonderful and I couldn’t tear my eyes away from it.

The characters are complex and flawed but likeable apart from Dan’s ex-wife and Shauna’s friend Lulu, she’s just self-centred!

The book shines a spotlight on the lives of people who are left behind when someone close to them dies and the huge gap that is left behind. Sometimes moving on is such a hard thing to do. I loved how thoughtful Colm was.

The story is heartbreaking at times and I did have a lump in my in my throat, particularly at Shauna’s pain.

The relationship between Shauna and Jess is refreshing and unorthodox and I loved that the women have created their own family unit in contrast to having them pitted against each other.

The Story of Our Secrets is a beautifully written, sensitive book which had me feeling a full range of emotions.

Another Shari Low belter, I thoroughly recommend it.

In real life, once upon a time she met a guy, got engaged after a week, and twenty-something years later she lives near Glasgow with her husband and a labradoodle. Her two teenagers have now left home, so she spends an inordinate amount of time on video calls checking if they’re eating well and keeping up to date with their laundry.
