I’m delighted to be hosting Abbey MacMunn in my hot seat during publication week of What If…? Volume 1 in her short story fantasy collection.
As well as finding out more about Volume 1 today, Abbey MacMunn is offering a free paranormal romance short story (all you have to do is email her). Read the interview for more info.
I think you’ll agree that short stories have a place in our lives when we’re having a busy week/day or on a commute but hands up, I haven’t read many short stories in the past couple of years. Have you?
Here’s more about What If…?
A magical short story collection from paranormal romance author Abbey MacMunn.
What would you do if you discovered you were a ghost, or a mermaid, or even an alien? Or perhaps vampires are more your thing?
First Bite: When vampire-obsessed waitress Madison meets her very own dark prince, is she ready to make the ultimate sacrifice?
Ghost: All Sarah wanted was a chance at a happy life, but as her husband lies dying on the hospital bed, can she confess her ghostly secret?
Song of the Sirens: Found alone on the beach as a child, Kai has always been drawn to the ocean, but can the appearance of a soaking-wet, naked Adonis offer the truth about what she is?
Otherworldly Dreams: Art student Amy dreams of strange alien worlds, but what if learning the truth takes her out of this world?
Welcome to Jera’s Jamboree.
Please summarise What If…? in 20 words or less.
What if…? is a magical collection of short fantasy stories. Think vampires, mermaids and aliens, oh my!
If you could choose to be one of your characters, who would you be Abbey?
I’d be Madison. She’s a bored, vampire-obsessed waitress who meets her very own dark prince.
And if you could have given your characters one piece of advice before the opening pages of the book, what would it be …
Go with your gut feeling. Embrace the possibility of the impossible.
Do you have a theme for your covers?
Yes, the theme is an enchanted rose. It’s part of a collection, so the rose theme will feature on each.
What is in the future for your series Abbey?
What if..? is part of a series, with another collection of short stories to be released later this year. If you’d like me to send you a FREE paranormal romance short story, send an email to: abbeymacmunn @ gmail.com (no spaces) Subject line, Free Story.
What do you think a short story gives to the reader that a full-length novel doesn’t? Have the changes in the publishing world affected the short story market? Have e-readers made a difference?
We live in a time-poor society these days, and I think short stories do have a place, particularly on e-readers. They’re perfect for reading on your commute to work or in your lunch hour, or perhaps with cuppa on your mid-afternoon break. (we’re nodding our heads 🙂 )
What are you currently working on Abbey?
As well as the short stories, I’m working on a contemporary romance, the second full-length book in a series of three, which features six characters with interwoven lives. The first book, Lilies and Little White Lies is out on submission now, so fingers crossed! (good luck!)
Do you have a most creative time of day?
I’m afraid I’m one of those annoying morning people! I can be found typing away at my keyboard as early as 5 a.m. on a Sunday, as long as I’ve got an unlimited supply of tea!
Have you done any writing courses that you would recommend to others?
Not a course exactly, but if you write romance, I would definitely recommend joining the Romantic Novelists’ Association.
Finally, what has been the best part of your writing journey so far Abbey?
Getting a publishing contract with Tirgearr Publishing for my debut paranormal romance, Touched. The book went through the wonderful Romantic Novelists’ Association’s New Writers’ Scheme, and then was a finalist in the Joan Hessayon Award for new writers.
Thank you for being my guest today.
Wishing you success with all your writing projects.
