Is it time to love Christmas again?

Faith Watkins loves Christmas, which is why she’s thrilled that her new hotel in the Lake District will be open in time for the festive season. And Faith has gone all out; huge Christmas tree, fairy lights, an entire family of decorative reindeer. Now all she needs are the guests …

But what she didn’t bank on was her first paying customer being someone like Adam Hunter. Rugged, powerfully built and with a deep sadness in his eyes, Adam is a man that Faith is immediately drawn to – but unfortunately he also has an intense hatred of all things Christmassy.

As the countdown to the big day begins, Faith can’t seem to keep away from her mysterious guest, but still finds herself with more questions than answers: just what happened to Adam Hunter? And why does he hate Christmas?

Kathryn FreemanKathryn Freeman was born in Wallingford but has spent most of her life living in a village outside Windsor. A former pharmacist, she’s now a medical writer who also loves to write romance. Some days a racing heart is a medical condition, others it’s the reaction to a hunky hero…

She has two teenage boys and a hu

sband who asks every Valentine’s Day whether he has to bother buying a card again this year (yes, he does) so the romance in her life is all in my head. Then again, her husband’s unstinting support of her career change goes to prove that love isn’t always about hearts and flowers – and heroes can come in many disguises.

Thank you so much for featuring me on your blog today. I thought I’d take the opportunity tell you about a couple of characters, Nip and Tuck, from my latest book, A Little Christmas Faith.

I don’t usually put animals in my stories. Not that I don’t like them, but because I don’t have any, so when I’m writing a book, the inclusion of a pet doesn’t immediately come to my mind. Actually, it’s not entirely true that I don’t have any pets. I have goldfish. Two inside, eight outside. They’re colourful, calming and always come to greet me (which I’m sure doesn’t have anything to do with wanting to be fed). Despite all that, I can’t see them making much of a splash (yes, I can hear you groaning) in a book.

But when I thought of Faith, who’s just opened her new hotel in the Lake District, I pictured her with animals. It fitted her personality. She’s big hearted, family orientated. Loves to help. Just the type of person to see a couple of crazy mutts in a rescue centre and want to take them home. Even though having two naughty dogs running loose around her fledgling hotel isn’t in the top 10 tips for how to run a successful business.

I didn’t have to work hard to imagine what these dogs might look like, because I knew a real pair who fitted the description beautifully.

What’s more, unlike humans who don’t tend to want to find themselves in my books, I knew this mad pair, owned by dear friends, would love to be featured in A Little Christmas Faith. Their real names are Ted and Oscar, but other than that, everything else you read about them in the book is true to their character. They were rescue dogs, they’ve been impossible to train, and they are impossibly cute. Here’s a photograph I took of them a few summers ago in my back garden, doing a photoshoot with one of my books. How could Faith not fall for them?

I guess the next question is, will her first guest, the hunky, peace loving, quietly spoken Adam Hunter, who’s come to the Old Mill Hotel to escape Christmas, be annoyed by the presence of Nip and Tuck. Or charmed by them?

How cute!  Are you as intrigued as I am?
