You may be aware through social media channels that April is World Autism Awareness Month but do you know what Big Brekkie is?
- Big Brekkie is a charity event that was thought up by regional charity Autism Wessex.
- It’s all about celebrating, raising awareness and funds during World Autism Awareness Month
And it’s very simple … you get to enjoy breakfast with others. How fabulous is that? Who doesn’t like a breakfast! Not only is it a social event but at the same time your donation will help fund resources and support that’s needed.
It’s not too late to host your own event either. You choose the time, date and location and eat whatever food you fancy. Register at Big Brekkie.
Autism Wessex was founded in 1968 by parents of children with autism and is a regional charity providing high quality specialist services for people affected by autism and associated difficulties across the counties of Dorset, Somerset, Hampshire and Wiltshire. Find out about the services and support they provide. Tweet them @autismwessex
To help with raising awareness, Autism Wessex have created a factsheet which you can download. I think you may be surprised by some of the facts. You can also gain an insight into autism from Wendy Janes guest post here on Jera’s Jamboree where she discusses her role with The National Autistic Society as well as SEN-D in fiction.
Will I be joining in? YES. There are four local events on the Big Brekkie website. I am planning on attending the event on 30th April from 9am – 12 at Cook at Purewell. They are hosting an event in the Neff cookery theatre at Purewell Superstore (2 Wilverley Road, Christchurch, Dorset, BH23 3RU). Bacon and egg sandwiches, fresh pastries, teas, coffees and fresh juice will be available (yum). Why don’t you get your breakfast too and make a morning of it shopping in Christchurch, visiting the Quay or wandering along the river.
I’ve only recently discovered Cook at Purewell. They hold professional live cookery demonstrations at the Neff cookery theatre throughout the year. Demos coming up are Italian Cookery, Tapas and Spanish Wine Tasting, Gluten Free Bread Making and a host of other dining delights. You should check out the events. Find them on Twitter too @CookatPurewell.
Will you be joining in the Big Brekkie and supporting Autism Awareness Month?
