Today marks the 21st birthday of National Poetry Day.
National Poetry Day is a mass celebration, a special day on which all are invited to discover and share the enjoyment of poems. It’s a chance to let language off the leash and to relish the sounds that words can make when they are spoken with delight.
This year the theme is light and sifting through my poems, I came across Life which I’m sharing as part of the celebration today.
National Poetry Day (@PoetryDayUK) is co-ordinated by the Forward Arts Foundation, a charity that celebrates poetry and promotes it as part of everyday life.
With Macmillan Children’s Books (@MacmillanKidsUK), it has nominated eleven poets as National Poetry Day Ambassadors, with special responsibility for igniting enthusiasm nationwide.
The best of their freshly composed poems on the subject of light have been launched as a free eBook.

We hope that the poems in this book – all inspired by this year’s National Poetry Day theme of light – will kindle an enthusiasm for poetry that continues to grow long after the day itself,Thursday 8 October 2015, has passed.
*All are invited to join in, breaking with the tyranny of prose by thinking of a poem and sharing it imaginative ways, with the hashtags #nationalpoetryday and #thinkofapoem*
Happy National Poetry Day
