Gallo and his guide Chednit are following a map to take them under the Citadel but Gallo hasn’t waited for Sebastian.
Sebastian and Wydrin in the Hands of Fate tavern. Lord Frith is paying them to go with him inside the Citadel.
And so our main characters are in place, ready for the quests to begin … and awesome quests they are! Edge of your seat, what will happen next? type of quests. We find out more about the backstory of our characters as the story moves along.
After the quest under the Citadel, they set off on their separate quests – Lord Frith to master the forbidden texts; Wydrin goes back home to Crosshaven and manages to get involved in something that is very risky; and Sebastian is on the march to save the Ynnsmouth Knights from Y’Ruen and her magic brood of daughters.
There is so much action and adventure in this story (and of course the magic and the mystery) there is no time to be bored. I became involved with the characters and with my imagination fired up, I walked across the bridge from the Secret Keeper’s home (loved Holley and her home – what a fab creation!) and fought beside Wydrin and Lord Frith.
All the characters are brilliant, all adding something. I enjoyed seeing Aaron Frith’s character grow but my favourite is Wydrin. She’s the glue that holds everything together. Sassy, spontaneous and a risk taker, I loved her sense of humour.
If you enjoy the fantasy genre then I recommend you add The Copper Promise to your reading list. This is a promising start for debut author Jen Williams and I can’t wait for the next in the trilogy. Lord Frith and Wydrin have more to share! I need to find out what happens with Sebastian and his children and I’m sure other characters will be back too. I still have questions about Lord Frith and his heritage which I hope will be answered.
I have a feeling that this trilogy as a whole will be a ‘keeper’ for me.
